Ashurst, which is one of our specialist mental health residential services, was visited by inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in April of this year. Inspectors found that the home had maintained the standards of the last inspection and once again gave it an overall rating of ‘good’. They gave it a ‘good’ rating for all six categories – safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

Inspectors said that there were “robust systems in place” to support safety and manage risk, and that staff support the people in the home “to take part in activities and to pursue their interests”.

They said: “They worked with people to plan for when they experienced periods of distress.” Inspectors said that young people staying at Ashurst are encouraged to have “maximum choice and control of their lives”. They also said that staff supported them “in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests.“

“Impressive transition to placements” – CQC Inspection 2025

The report said: “A relative told us they were impressed by how the transition to the placement was managed, they said, “My relative went and had a day visit and then an overnight visit before moving in.'”

Inspectors spoke with a relative of someone using the service, who called it “really good” and said the transition into was “well managed”. They said: “I only go once a month and it is always nice and clean; they have games in the dining room, it’s all really good.”

Staff also spoke highly of the support that they got from management telling inspectors that “they felt valued and were treated with respect”. They said that the manager “always checks in” with them “regularly” and “welcome” any concerns they raise.

The manager said that they had an “open-door day” every month in which staff and people could speak with them and voice any conce The CQC report cites one staff member as saying: “Leaders are very knowledgeable and approachable and are always visible.”

A family member of a person placed in the care home said that their relative was “really lucky to get a placement like this”.

Inspectors said that the care come was committed to “ensuring quality assurance” and in place to maintain “high standards of care and ensure the well-being of people”.

With women making up nearly half of the UK workforce, it’s essential that workplaces adapt to meet the needs of staff experiencing the effects of menopause and perimenopause.

By signing this pledge, we commit to taking positive action to make sure our staff feel understood, supported, and empowered. This includes opening up safe spaces for dialogue, adapting working environments where needed, and fostering a culture of awareness and respect. Menopause affects everyone differently, and we want to ensure that all staff feel seen and heard.

Some of the practical steps we’re taking include increasing awareness through staff training, adding menopause-related information to our wellbeing resources, and reviewing our internal policies with inclusive practices in mind.

Luke explains: “I am fundraising for Beat, the UK’s eating disorder charity. Beat supports anyone with an eating disorder, their friends and family, as well as professionals working with or worried about an individual in their care.”

This deeply personal mission stems from Luke’s own experience witnessing close friends struggle with eating disorders from a very young age. He notes, “Nobody should ever have to go through this, nevermind at such a young age.”

Luke has already contributed £50 of his own and set a goal to raise £300 to help BEAT continue their vital work. The charity provides critical services and support for those dealing with anorexia nervosa, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and more.
