Mayhurst is a lovely detached house in a rural setting, but close to the centre of Marsden, near Huddersfield. The staff team have a range of professional backgrounds and life experiences, allowing the young people to recognise that we can all achieve regardless of our history or previous experiences.
Service user involvement is integral to all aspects of the delivery of care. This was evidenced in our recent CQC inspection feedback which stated “The service was person centred, inclusive and there was a positive approach to people’s support and care.”
The staff team actively reassure and encourage engagement with the clinical team, ensuring that young people are clear regarding the expectation of them to work collaboratively with their care team.
Multidisciplinary working is evident throughout the home itself as well as in the young people’s care plans. Open collaborative relationships support a consistent approach to care and therefore provide support and emotional containment for the young people.
Mayhurst is set in private grounds, surrounded by countryside. This creates a real therapeutic setting with access to wildlife and a local pond. There are scenic walks along the canal or on bridlepaths. The staff enjoying getting out and about with the young people and enjoying all that the local area has to offer.
Mayhurst also has good links to local bus services and is close to the centre of Marsden, where there is also a train station linking to both Huddersfield and Manchester, supporting the ongoing development of independence skills.
Mayhurst has a large kitchen with bi-folding doors to the garden. Everyone enjoys sitting round the table enjoying the views, watching the wild rabbits, robins and hens that visit us daily.
