Well trained, confident staff are the cornerstone of any successful organisation and Care in Mind prides itself on the comprehensive training we provide.
All new staff receive a week-long induction package focusing on a detailed understanding of our model of care. This is delivered in our dedicated training suite at our head office before a staff member commences work within the service.
Our unique 6 day TRUSST (Therapeutic Risk Underpinned By Safe Supportive Techniques) training package consists of the following;
- Safewards for Safehomes
- Introduction to Therapeutic Risk Management
- Boundaries and assertive care
- Emergency First aid at work
- Safeguarding

- Physical observations
- Breakaway
- Wound care
- Understanding and managing behaviours that challenge
- Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism
- Child sexual exploitation,
- Equality and Diversity
- Data protection
- Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberties
- Moving and handling
TRUSST underpins our approach to risk management in a crisis, approaching risk in a collaborative way and using relationship-based non-confrontational approaches to risk management. Physical intervention and disengagement techniques are taught to be used in extreme circumstances, but as demonstrated in our outcomes, we have had great success in minimising the use of ‘hands on’ risk management. This allows for more respectful and thoughtful relationships with our young people and avoids re-traumatisation and consequent escalations in risk.
Following commencement of employment, each staff member receives six months of dedicated in-house, role-specific training assisting them to confidently complete their probationary period. This includes completion of The Care Certificate and Fire Warden Training. Managers will also attend the Care in Mind Leadership Development Programme.
Once their probation is finished, staff then have the opportunity to enrol on additional qualifications relevant to their role to support with their career development. These include Level 3 in Adult Care and Level 5 in Leadership and Management in Care. We also support our clinical and business support teams to continue in their professional development and offer support with qualifications such as AAT and CIPD.
