Woodside opened in November 2019 and is a large detached house on the outskirts of Huddersfield. The team work to Care in Mind’s established and innovative model of care, aiming to support young people to transition into independent living. Woodside offers placements for up to 5 young people, aged 16-25. Therapeutic risk management and least restrictive practice are integral to the way we work.
Our residential team work closely with the clinical team to ensure our young people receive individually tailored, consistent and clinically effective residential care. The house is associated with our Yorkshire hub in Birstall, which is where the clinical team are based and where meetings and therapy sessions take place. The clinical team use a Structured Clinical Management approach (SCM-A), adapted for young adults, offering group and individual sessions.
The team also use the Safewards for Safehomes model; an evidence based approach identifying factors that reduce ‘conflict and containment’.
Woodside is a large, homely environment, providing a stable setting to support recovery. The house has a large living area, with a separate ‘chill out’ space and an extra lounge that can be used for clinical sessions. There is also a separate kitchen / dining area. The house is set in extensive grounds, with no less than three gardens; so there is plenty of external space for outdoor activities. We are located not far from Huddersfield, with a direct bus route into the town centre and easy access to all the amenities it has to offer, including colleges, shopping, restaurants and leisure activities.
Each young person has a weekly activity planner, personalised to them, to plan their activities for the week. This includes clinical sessions, education and house activities such as movie or pamper nights, as well as any other appointments or individual plans for the week.
