Our Outcomes

Care in Mind supports young people that many other providers struggle to support.  Young people who may have had many failed placements.  Young people who have spent sometimes many years in hospital before coming to us.  Young people who have experienced such significant trauma that it impacts on all aspects of their lives.

But we know, from many years of experience, that a young person’s past does not need to define their future.  And where they feel hopeless we will hold the hope.  We don’t give up.  We believe.  And we work hard with young people to achieve together what we know they can achieve. This is intensive work and it can take time. It is expensive for our commissioners. But we believe deeply that it is worthwhile.

This is because of the excellent outcomes that we achieve for young people. And when comparing the costs of many years of hospital treatment and the high costs of morbidity associated with long-term mental health difficulties, we believe that what we do is good value for money.

So this is one of the most important pages on our website, because it demonstrates the evidence that what we do works when many services before us have failed.

  • We hope that commissioners and referrers are encouraged by our excellent outcomes to see the value of our service and make referrals.
  • We hope that our staff feel proud to have accompanied young people on this journey and to feel hopeful for young people who are still on the road.
  • Most importantly, we hope that young people and families believe that change is possible and that a placement at Care in Mind could be the difference you need.

In the period of 2023-24:

  • 96% of Young People (16-30) were referred from acute or long stay inpatient wards
  • 84% of those placed with Care in Mind sustained their placement or had a positive discharge*
  • Of these, Young People had a reduction in self-harm behaviours of an average of 77%

*Data from young people who completed transitions.
